A graduate of Pratt institute and Berkshire Summer School of Art, Evelyn Notman Underwood also studied in the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy. She was a student of artists Florence Julia Bach, Ernest Watson Philip Elliot and more.
As a professional artist herself, Underwood was at home in all mediums, but her favourite was oil and watercolour and she most enjoyed painting landscapes, still life and portraits.
Her paintings hung in many exhibitions from East Aurora to Paris: Salon des Independents and the Raymond Duncan Gallery in Paris; Ligoa Duncan Gallaries and Lincoln Center’s Cork Gallery in New York City; Sheraton Park Plaza for Knox Art Gallery and many more.
Today her works hang in public galleries and private collections.
These paintings were done during her visits to Oman in the 1950s.
Underwood passed away in 1983.
