Peter Harrigan has spent much of his adult life abroad – first in Africa, then in the Arabian Gulf. He was based in Saudi Arabia for almost 30 years and his contribution, through writing, commissioning and publishing, was recognised in 2013 when he was awarded the Rawabi Holding Award for promoting British-Saudi cultural relations. Having commissioned the highly-regarded titles Wings Over Arabia and The Caravan Goes On: How Aramco and Saudi Arabia Grew Up Together, he is once again deeply involved in Saudi affairs in masterminding two significant books for the Arriyadh Development Authority: one on the city itself and the other focusing on the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Diriyyah. Peter is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, Visiting Researcher to the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, Exeter University and an Associate of Al Khamsa Arabian horse society in the USA.
